Scientific scope and primary references

These are literature-grounded, illustrative teaching cases, not a quantitative predictor. Observation times are authored teaching timestamps, not a reproduction of each paper’s protocol. Qualitative assays use matched untreated controls and the comparisons stated on each card; no universal damage or ROS threshold is used.

γH2AX is a signaling-dependent DNA-break response marker, not a percent damage meter. Transcript abundance is not enzyme activity. ROS participates in signaling as well as stress. Plant metacaspases are not animal caspases; no animal apoptosome or universal caspase cascade is assumed here.

A SMALL LAB FOR BIG QUESTIONS

What does the cell evidence support?

Investigate Arabidopsis root cells through three changing observations per case. Pair a fate decision with two relevant observations and a mechanism or follow-up measurement.

The clock tracks playing time. A time limit leaves answers incomplete; it never causes biological death. No speed bonuses or survival quotas.

    How to play

Read identity, genotype, exposure and the biological timestamp. Select two evidence cards, a response, and one explanation. “Request further evidence” uses an explanation that specifies the measurement needed. The mixed-population case also requires a separate response for its neighbors.

Controls: click or tap. Tab and Space select cards and options; Enter submits when the submit button is focused. P pauses; M toggles sound. Help and feedback pause playing time. Background tabs pause the round. Close these panels to continue.

The knowledge report counts supported decisions, relevant observations, mechanisms and appropriate uncertainty separately. Reassess each checkpoint; the authored cell trajectory is independent of your answers.
